Using behaviour change theory to develop occupational therapy resources for improving compression-stocking adherence

Abstract

Introduction: The best way to treat and prevent venous leg ulcers is by wearing compression stockings every day. However, some people demonstrate low adherence to stockings. While personalised and multi-dimensional interventions show promise in improving adherence, further high-quality research is required. Michie's Behaviour Change Theory has been used successfully with other chronic conditions requiring multifactorial solutions and has now been extended to stocking adherence.
