Abstract
In the early months of 2023, numerous articles have been published about the current and potential influence of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) on higher education, particularly legal education. These perspectives have varied from pessimistic and alarmist to ambivalent and nonchalant, to excessively optimistic and even utopian. This diversity of viewpoints has made it challenging for many observers to develop their own opinion on the probable impact of Gen AI. This article aims to make sense of these contrasting narratives not by striving to settle on a single truth about Gen AI and legal education but by placing them within the pluralistic framework of discourse analysis. This framework identifies both the emerging dominant and marginalized or neglected discourses, and tentatively predicts how these discourses might evolve in the coming months.
