Abstract
This paper critically reviews the relationships in the literature between sustainability and well- being and explores implications for tourism. In an extensive analysis of literature by themes and topics that relate to sustainability and well-being, the relevant constructs are presented in a conceptual matrix. The matrix identifies intrinsic factors that are theoretically and/or empirically associated with both sustainability and well-being. The factors include those that are conducive or detrimental to both constructs, and those that are conducive to one but detrimental to the other. Following on from this, the paper provides insights into potential future research avenues in the field, particularly in the context of tourism.
