Abstract
The Verichip method of storing a patient's medical records by injecting the chip into a patient's arm is in its infancy. The chip is being financed and manufactured by two of the USA's biggest corporations so it is reasonable to expect that they will grow their business exponentially. The chip has advantages for an incapacitated patient rushed to an emergency room at a hospital, however it also poses a number of problems viz issues around content, ethics and privacy and the doctor/patient relationship. This paper will explore these problems which the Verichip will have to overcome to gain universal acceptance.
