Abstract
This article considers alternatives to the use of peers in juries in criminal trials. Though there are strong historical reasons for this, the growth in the complexity of evidence suggests that, with respect to members of the jury, they may not always be able to understand complex evidence. In some cases at least, technical experts may be called for to assist in decision making.
