Abstract

Bone is divided into an inner, metabolically active latticework called trabecular or cancellous bone and an outer, more robust cortical bone. A balance of cell activity between osteoclasts (cells that resorb bone volume) and osteoblasts (cells that lay down bone matrix) remodels bone.
