Abstract

Timber construction is an important part of the Queensland construction industry and of our built heritage. To ensure the sustainability of timber as a construction material into the future, new approaches to forestry management, timber processing, and timber construction will be needed. This project investigates the intersection of these requirements. This project has involved collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology, Wide Bay Water, Farm Architectural, and the QLD Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. The physical outcome of the research is a timber pavilion and exhibition showcasing alternative approaches to sustainable forestry management; timber construction; innovative engineering solutions; and novel design methods to maximise the use of forests felled for timber.
