Abstract

Interdisciplinary collaborations are an important part of primary care research. Often ‘interdisciplinary’ refers to colleagues from different clinical backgrounds (nursing, pharmacy or medicine) coming together to work on a common research problem. Less familiar is ‘cross-discipline’ research involving academics from outside health care to collaborate on understanding complex health issues and behaviours. And yet, cross-discipline collaborations have the potential to open up new questions and generate new knowledge. Sociologists are a discipline group who have a lot to offer primary care research.
