Abstract

Building project cost management is of critical importance to the profitability of most building projects, many of which
have been experiencing chronic problems such as poor cost management, inferior cost performance, and insufficient
cost control. Many researchers and professionals have identified these problems as factors that affect the building
development cost, and which have not been fully explored. This study aims to identify, examine, and rank factors
perceived to influence the building development cost in the New Zealand construction context with respect to their
relative significance. A questionnaire survey was conducted in a statistical sample that draws from construction
industry professionals in New Zealand.
