Abstract

[Extract]
Law enforcement can be a very physically demanding profession. When on-duty, some of the challenging tasks an officer could complete include driving a vehicle at high speed, lifting, carrying, dragging objects or people, discharging a firearm, and pursuing and apprehending an offender. Due to the potential high-intensity demands of policing, recruits will typically need to complete academy training before they can become law enforcement officers. Physical training is an important part of a law enforcement academy, with the general goal of improving a recruit's muscular strength, power, and endurance, specific to the occupation.
