Abstract

Project management is an evolving discipline whose participants are increasingly interested in the maturity of the project organization and the competency of its project managers. Many have linked project management competence to project management effectiveness, but few have clearly linked the two concepts. In this regard, maturity and competence are describe as they relate to projects. A preliminary framework that incorporates these concepts, the integrated project management competence and maturity model, is then presented. Understanding the interrelationships between competency and maturity will better position project participants to contribute to the ever-evolving standards and certification movements in their own professional organizations.
