Abstract
This set of exemplars illustrates the practical or ‘performance’ component of the
assessment of the arts learning area carried out by the National Monitoring Study
of Student Achievement (NMSSA) in 2021. One performance task from each of the
four arts disciplines is described, along with annotated examples of the ways students responded, and suggestions to support teaching and learning.
