Abstract

This report is designed to support the teaching of English in primary and
intermediate classrooms. It draws on insights generated from the assessment of
the English learning area carried out by the National Monitoring Study of Student
Achievement (NMSSA) in 2019.

This report focuses on the creating meaning strand of English, introducing NMSSA
and the NMSSA assessment of this strand. It presents practical insights drawn from
the three modes of creating meaning – writing, speaking and presenting
