Highlights:
The increasing reliance on data driven analytics is critiqued.

We know what tourists do, how long they spend doing things, but we do not know why.

Big data studies in tourism do not pay enough attention to the individual tourist.

We advocate for greater insights into the reasons for tourist decision making.
