Mindfulness and metacognitive awareness among university students

Abstract

The argument about the relationship between mindfulness and metacognitive awareness is unclear. Some research studies suggest that relationship between mindfulness and metacognitive awareness exists while some researches do not support this relationship. Mindfulness is bringing attention to moment-to-moment experience. Metacognitive Awareness is the awareness of one s' thinking and 5trategies used to regulate and control thinking processes. The present study aims to examine the relationship between mindfulness and metacognitive awareness among university students. The research was conducted on 100 university students which was further divided into males (n=50) and females (n=50). Mindfulness was assessed by Toronto Mindfulness Scale and metacognitive awareness was assessed by using Metacognitive Awareness Inventory. Findings of the study suggested a low correlation between metacognitive awareness and mindfulness among university students and there was no significant gender difference in mindfulness and metacognitive awareness among university students.
