Abstract

This introductory chapter begins by defining key concepts and examining the historical context surrounding the evidence of sensory approaches as a therapeutic intervention. It briefly contextualizes sensory approaches within core sensory theories of Ayres Sensory Integration (ASI) and Aron's Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS). By exploring the use of sensory systems in therapeutic settings, the chapter establishes a foundational understanding of how sensory approaches can support mental health recovery and improve emotional regulation.
