Abstract

Optimisation of intraoperative management is vital to reduce infection in knee arthroplasty. This chapter deals with antibiotic prophylaxis in the operating theatre, operating theatre conditions, hand preparation, gloves, skin preparation, wound lavage, draping, gowns, hyperoxygenation, normothermia, normovolaemia, dressings, drains, sutures, closure, hoods, prosthesis design, blood management and post-operative care.
