Highlights:
Psychological well-being of a Chinese LGBT group at an iconic LGBT event was studied.
Multiple qualitative methods were adopted.
PERMA (Positive emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Achievement) model was used to analyze well-being.
Distinctions of perceptions of PERMA elements among paraders, volunteers and organizers were identified.
A role-based, event specific PERMA model was developed.
