Abstract

This special issue is based on the theme of the 27th Council for Australasian Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE) conference held between 7 and 10 February 2017 in Dunedin, New Zealand. The conference was hosted by the Department of Tourism at the University of Otago. The theme “Time for big ideas? Re-thinking the field for tomorrow” proved very popular amongst the 271 event delegates. The programme schedule contained 224 full and working papers and 8 concurrent sessions. This special issue includes four, carefully selected, high quality contributions from the conference. The full papers featuring here were praised by peer reviewers prior to the conference for their excellence and rigour and were all nominated for best CAUTHE papers. They were then selected by the CAUTHE 2017 scientific committee for double blind peer review in this journal, which led to their subsequent inclusion in this issue.
