Abstract

Desire and Lack of Being begins a series of studies on deep, embedded Western ideas, which surface from time to time and remain permanent in the culture. This paper reflects on the idea of the human thirst for that which is “other”, beginning with the Psalms and examining the consideration of eros by Plato and Plotinus.
