Abstract

Enclosed documents (appendices): Appendix A- Al Balad Cards; Appendix B- GRM Full Paper Phase 8: (May-Jun 2025)

RC Task: Cooler Desert Cities Platform development and Manuscript writing contribution.

Deliverables: Conclusive Report on Manuscript write up and Platform development

Phase: Case study analysis and manuscript writing This report summarizes progress to date, key objectives, activities and further tasks for the Cooler Desert Cities project, which aims to unearth design drivers that contribute to low-emission, low-energy desert comfort, laying the basis for the development of the “Cooler-Shaper Tool” (CST). This stage focused on finalising paper 1 (see report005), which included analysis of the Al Balad (SAU) case study model and comparative analysis of Al Balad, Al Fahidi and Masdar sites. Aside from this, the findings from initial typology- based and later case study-based optimisation algorithm were discussed with the design team and a new strategy that combines both was devised. The following sections summarise key findings from the paper, Al Balad analysis and outline the agreed optimisation strategy.
