Abstract
The Voice referendum result prompts a deeper examination of Australians’ knowledge and perceptions of the role of the Australian Constitution. This paper synthesises several quantitative studies from before and after the referendum to examine the insights that can be extracted to inform our understanding of community knowledge on civic awareness of the ongoing issue of reconciliation, the scope of current Constitutional literacy in the Australian community and the need to strengthen civic education on important public law issues. Citizens will be empowered to take positive action when they are informed and aware of democratic processes and the legal principles and institutions that underpin the governance of the nation.
