Comment on "Should doctors encourage patients to record consultations?" by G Elwyn

Research output: Contribution to journalComment/debate/opinionResearch

Abstract

We read with interest the different opinions on patients recording the consultations of doctors. This is a debatable topic among different stakeholders. We have a practical example of China, where patients are responsible for keeping their records. If they visit a doctor, they must bring their files along with them, which has good and bad impacts. The good is that patient is the owner of his/her data, but if doctor keeps the data, it might have insecurity in the sense of privacy. But on the other hand, if these patients missed that files, it would lead them to start from scratch with no past histories. Files with patients could also be read by any friends or family members which could also breach their privacy.
