Abstract
Assessment of social skills in adult populations has a relatively long history in the scientific literature. Multiple self-report and observational tools, as well as one clinical interview, have been published for the assessment of social skills and social cognition in healthy adults as well as in specific skill-impaired populations, including intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders, and schizophrenia/serious mental illness. This chapter provides an overview of the most commonly used and psychometrically established measures of social skills and social cognition, and discusses key considerations in selecting the appropriate assessment tools.
