Abstract

This paper reviews the current methods used for cost estimating and examines the accuracy expected in practice. A previous review by the authors indicated that the accuracy of the cost estimate is to be a major factor in determining its usefulness. This paper considers the accuracy levels achieved in cost engineering estimates in relation to amount of information available. It also considers the importance of the qualities of the cost engineer in achieving accurate estimates.
