A synthesis of literature on ethics program for political behaviour in organisation

Abstract

Politics is one of the important elements of an organization. Organizational politics can be defined as inclusion of power and influence which occurs outside realm of organizational processes and procedures, whereas the political behaviour means use of overt behaviour to achieve one s’ goals. Power is an organizational resource which increases due to control of over organizational resources and politics is related to such power attainment. Therefore, the political use of power indicates the need of ethical restraint. The purpose of the present study is to analyze ethics program in organization to control political behaviour by reviewing articles and books. It was found that impact of ethics programs on the employee s’ behaviour is mixed, with most of studies focusing on widespread program element and codes of conduct. The review indicates that ethics program should include of moral imagination and internal social criticism.
