Abstract
In recent years, the necessity of interdisciplinary teams to address the challenges facing health technology has become more and more apparent. Technical skills alone are often insufficient to tackle challenges in the healthcare environment, and collaborations with active clinicians and end-users is required. Boundaries remain, however, between the traditionally isolated fields of medicine and information and communication technology (ICT). In order to address these barriers to innovation, Taipei Medical University (TMU), in conjunction with Sana and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), hosted a hackathon event around health technology innovation. In this document, we outline Taiwan's unique experience with health innovation and describe the successes and challenges in hosting this type of event.
