Abstract

Universities are experiencing a major shake-up due to the rapid evolvement of Generative AI. Although these powerful tools are opening exciting new doors for teaching and learning, they are also providing academic leaders with some serious ethical concerns. This paper digs into the topic to shed more light on it. This study adopted a literature survey approach to develop a framework of Gen AI use in higher education. This framework has four categories, namely, Academic Integrity and Assessment Practices, Student Perceptions and Adoption of AI Tools, Educator Perspectives and Institutional Responses, and Broader Ethical Implications and Future Directions. This framework is a practical guide for understanding implications of AI in higher education. The findings have important implications for higher education institutes' executives, managers and academics in developing strategies to utilise the benefits of AI while addressing its ethical concerns.
