Abstract
It is important at the outset to ensure that the field of discussion is clearly defined. One of the problems that has beset this particular area of construction research is a lack of clear definitions as to what is meant by procurement systems or terms such as contract strategy, or even the meaning of design and build. Hence, the definitions used in this book are briefly discussed below; for a more detailed discussion of the definition of procurement systems please turn to Chapter 12.
