Abstract

A geotechnical ground condition that base most civil engineering and construction is important factor that cause loss of cost for project by its uncertainty. It is thought that a sense of ownership of project staffs is important for geotechnical risk management, but the effect of role recognition has been not obvious. In this study, authors categorize the kind of role recognition of staffs (organizer, geotechnical and design engineer) and estimate their behavior (probability of correct assessment) through the process from geotechnical survey to civil design at road construction projects. The result of estimated probability shows more than 10% difference on expected cost between staffs who has a sense of ownership and other people’s problem, and also suggests that we have much projects with geotechnical risk more than projects without risk.
