Abstract

In this paper, we chose Otake-gumi, Sunago-gumi, and Kanasugi construction companies, local construction companies in Tokushima, Hokkaido, and Saitama, which realized improvement of business productivity and enhancement of work motivation of employees by introducing ICT actively in business. Reasons for the latter are studied. It is concluded that in three companies, (1) many employees have a high level of intrinsic motivation, (2) measures to improve autonomy, competence, and relatedness, three elements of intrinsic motivation, are imbedded as “corporation culture, ” 3) support chains for autonomy are functioning well, and (4) introduction of new technologies such as ICT plays a major role in improving the intrinsic motivation of employees. In doing so, all three companies are implementing appropriate but unique risk management.
