Project Details
Description
Led by Dr Skye Marshall, BUND is active in building research to support the evidence-based nutrition and dietetic practice to optimise outcomes for elective and emergency surgical patients. To achieve this, BUND partner with industry and health services and are currently implementing multiple funded research projects.
Current research projects
Bariatric Body Composition (BBC) Study
Chief investigator: Dr Skye Marshall
Co-investigators: Asha Soni, Charlene Matthews, Liz Isenring, Felicity Cohen, Hayley O'Neill, Isabella Maimone, Dr Reza Adib, Di Reidlinger, Vernon Coffey
Collaborating institutions: Weightloss Solutions Australia; Nutrition Research Australia
Research aim: In LSG, RYGB, ESG, and IGB patients, this study aims to test the feasibility and acceptability of conducting bone mineral density and body composition assessment via DXA scan at pre-procedure, 6-months and 12-months post-procedure; and compare the bone mineral density and body composition changes relative to weight loss over 12-months.
Research setting: Bariatric medical centre; Bond Institute of Health and Sport
Registration: ACTRN1260000251921p
food and eating PRoblems as predictors of bariatric therapy Outcome and FoLlow-up adherence (PROFiLE Stay): A retrospective cohort study
Chief investigator: Dr Skye Marshall
Co-investigators: Brianna Fear-Keen, Amanda Turbill, Felicity Cohen, Charlene Matthews, Nicola Gadd, Ashleigh McIntosh, Georgia Spry, Zoe Martin
Collaborating institutions: Weightloss Solutions Australia
Research aim: To determine if identified food and eating problems identified pre- or post-bariatric therapy (medical, endoscopic, or surgical) impact on post-surgical adverse events, weight change, comorbidities, or loss to follow-up.
Research setting: Bariatric medical centre
Registration: TBA
Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Efficacy Study (ENvISaGE).
Chief investigator: Dr Skye Marshall
Co-investigators: Felicity Cohen, Liz Isenring, Asha Soni, Graeme Rich
Collaborating institutions: Weightloss Solutions Australia
Research aim: To determine the weight loss efficacy, safety, and effect on comorbidity risk factors and quality of life of obese adults receiving endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) or laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG)
Research setting: Bariatric medical centre, Bond Institute of Health and Sport
Registration: ACTRN12618000337279
