Research interests
Professor at the Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare, Bond University, and Lead for the Evidence-Based Practice Professorial Unit at Gold Coast Hospital and Health Services. Also an Adjunct Professor at UNSW and Associate Faculty at Ariadne Labs (Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health & Brigham and Women’s Hospital).
Ranked among the top 2% of scientists in Medical Informatics (Stanford, 2022–2025), with research focused on using technology to improve healthcare quality, patient safety, and evidence-based practice. Several research grants have been secured, numerous articles published in prestigious international journals, and multiple awards received.
An internationally recognised digital health expert, member of the WHO Expert Panel for Digital Health, and Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Digital Health, Australasian College of Health Service Management, International Society for Quality in Health Care, and the International Association of Health Informatics and Sciences. Also serves on the Future Leaders Advisory Board of FL-HPH.
Collaborations include MIT and Sana mHealth, advising AI startups, and co-founding the Taiwan OHDSI chapter. Currently Co-Investigator on the NHMRC IDEAs grant, developing an AI chatbot to address language barriers in NSW Emergency Departments. Committed to addressing critical healthcare needs globally, with a focus on quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practices. Research explores the application of AI, Generative AI, machine learning, digital health, and mHealth solutions to enhance patient monitoring, early disease prediction and prevention, and personalised care.
Statement for HDR students
Opportunities are available to supervise HDR students in digital health, health informatics, evidence-based practice, and data science, with a focus on AI, Generative AI, machine learning, and mhealth solutions to improve healthcare outcomes. Interdisciplinary projects bridging clinical practice and digital health innovation to enhance quality and safety are encouraged.
