Personal profile
Research interests
I am a Professor at the Institute for Evidence-Based Healthcare, Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, Bond University, and Lead for the Evidence-Based Practice Professorial Unit at Gold Coast Hospital and Health Services. I’m also an Adjunct Associate Professor at UNSW and Associate Faculty at Ariadne Labs (Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health & Brigham and Women’s Hospital).
Ranked among the top 2% of scientists in Medical Informatics by Stanford University (2022–2024), my research focuses on using technology to enhance healthcare quality, patient safety, and evidence-based practice. I apply innovative solutions and foster interdisciplinary partnerships to drive progress in digital health and healthcare delivery. I have secured AUD 4 million in research grants, published over 190 articles, and mentored at hackathons and datathons. My work has been recognised with Taiwan’s Top Online MOOCS Course Award (2021), the Special Outstanding Professional Award (2020), and several Research Publication Excellence Awards from Taipei Medical University (2014–2020). It has also been featured in over 100 news reports and has influenced policy, including a petition to the FDA to revise Benzodiazepine guidelines.
I am a Fellow of several esteemed organisations, including the Australasian College of Health Informatics (FACHI), Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH), Australasian College of Health Service Management (ACHSM), International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua), and International Association of Health Informatics and Sciences (IAHSI). I am also a member of the Future Leaders Advisory Board for the International Network of Health Promoting Hospitals and Health Services (FL-HPH).
I have collaborated with MIT and Sana mHealth on healthcare innovations for low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), and advised AI startups like AESOP, ASKiN, and Dynaccurate. As co-founder of the Taiwan OHDSI chapter, I leverage observational health data to drive innovation. Currently, I am a Co-Investigator on the NHMRC IDEAs grant, developing an AI-Chatbot (TRIBOT study) to address language barriers in Emergency Departments in NSW.
My research aims to advance global health informatics, particularly through cross-border collaborations to improve healthcare delivery in low-resource settings. I am committed to addressing critical healthcare needs globally, with a focus on quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practices. I explore the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI, machine learning, digital health, and mHealth solutions in healthcare to enhance patient monitoring, early disease prediction and prevention, and personalised care.
