Research interests
I am a Professor and Head of Exercise & Sports Science within the Faculty of Health Science and Medicine.
As Head of the Program I am driven by three aims:
- to ensure employment outcomes for Bond graduates of both the Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science and Masters of Sports Science programs
- to introduce both a work-integrated and career development learning framework to the Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science
- to strategically develop industry linkages to help achieve the first two aims
I won the CQ University Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Learning and Teaching in 2012, as well as a national teaching award (Office of Learning and Teaching Citation) in 2013. Previously I was Head of CQ University’s Department of Health and Human Performance for seven years, and the only academic seconded into a major university auditing project (Australian Universities Quality Agency) for two years.
I currently supervise 5 PhD projects. I am on the editorial panel for the European Review of Aging and Physical Activity, and was a member of Exercise and Sport Science Australia's (ESSA) National University Course Accreditation Program (NUCAP) Panel.
I retain a lifelong passion for competitive sport. I was a former national champion in surf lifesaving, and as a masters athlete, I won the National Ironman Triathlon Championship (50-54 years) in 2005.
