Personal profile
Research interests
I received my Doctorate from the Univeristy of Technology, Sydney. After graduating from Curtin University with a faculty award, I was selected to undertake the fulltime directing course at AFTRS. I spent three years learning from some of the world’s best directors, including Philip Noyce, Alan Parker, Norman Jewison and Mike Liegh.
I have directed over 100 hours of television drama in Australia and New Zealand, including Home & Away, Neighbours, Pacific Drive, Breakers and Shortland Street. I have produced, written and directed many short films, documentaries, TV commercials and music videos. I also co-wrote and produced the feature film, 10 Days to Die.
In 1995 I co-founded the Canberra International Film Festival, and was its artistic director for 13 years. I held the Film Position on the ACT Cultural Council, and was the ACT representative of the Australian Directors Guild for many years. I have also been a judge for the Australia Directors Guild Awards and the TV WEEK Logie Awards.
My published works include a chapter in the book, Tertiary Teaching: Doing it Differently, Doing it Better; How Reality Bites: The production of Australian Soap Operas, with Peter Dodds in Media International Australia.
