Research interests

Who am I? I am an internationally renowned public health epidemiologist with significant experience and expertise in executive  leadership of, and research into environmental risk factors for disease. I held the position of Foundation Professorial Chair in Cancer Prevention at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) and was the inaugural Executive Director of the Health Research Institute at the USC and until recently, the Cancer Council Queensland (CCQ) Professorial Chair in Cancer Prevention and co-lead of the Cancer Epidemiology program at CCQ (2010-2019).

My experience: I was the inaugural Executive Director of the Health Research Institute at USC and previous to that I was the Director of Research in the School of Public Health at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). I have served as Acting DVC(R) at USC during my tenure at the University, participating in national RUN DVC-R meetings and day-to-day activities when the incumbent DVC (R) was unavailable due to annual leave etc.

I have worked in the USA undertaking my research at the University of Georgia. In 2004 I moved to QUT where I established the world-recognised AusSun Research Laboratory. I have undertaken many Senior Executive Leadership roles in the University and Research sector and serve as Director on boards.

My success: I have received over $24M in competitive research funding and have over 215+ publications, many in the top-ranking journals in my field, with a citation H-Index of 47. I have a proven track record of undertaking large, multidisciplinary research programs - the projects that I have led include some of the largest and most complex ever conducted in Australia. I have supervised 21 PhD students (25 Postgraduate Students in total) to completion.

My vision: I am seeking new challenges to expand my Executive leadership, research program and mentoring skills to provide successes for organisations and the community.
