Research interests
I am an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian and Associate Professor within the new Nutrition and Dietetics program.
My research areas of expertise include clinical nutrition, particularly investigating the effectiveness of lifestyle interventions targeting cardiovascular and chronic kidney disease (CKD), metabolism, drivers of nutritional status and nutrition assessment.
I was awarded the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) 'Young Achiever' award, in recognition of achievements in advancing research in the specialty field of renal nutrition.
Over the past five years I have completed a fellowship, titled 'Nutrition-related mediators of cardiovascular disease progression in CKD' supported by a Lions Senior Medical Research Fellowship and Health Research Fellowship (Queensland Government) at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. This program and my ongoing research agenda relate to nutrition interventions to improve cardiovascular disease outcomes in kidney disease.
Statement for HDR students
I supervise PhD and MPhil students in my research program of clinical nutrition, in particular in the areas of optimising nutritional status and outcomes in kidney and cardiovascular disease, developing, implementing and evaluating the translation of evidence into practice and improving efficiency in dietetics practice.
