Personal profile

Research interests

I am an Associate Professor at the Centre for Research in Evidence-Based Practice at Bond University  and a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Liverpool Hospital, Sydney. My key interest is to improve clinical practice, especially for patients with respiratory conditions, through high quality research.

My research focuses on epidemiology and large database analysis, evidence-based medicine, knowledge synthesis (systematic reviews, meta-analysis) and knowledge translation, and medical decision-making at a system and patient encounter level (using the tools of decision analysis and decision aids for shared decision-making).

I have been supported by consecutive NHMRC fellowships since 2015 and spent two years as a visiting research scholar at the Mayo Clinic’s Evidence-Based Practice Center in Rochester, Minnesota, USA. From 2015 to 2016 I was medical chair of the respiratory network at the New South Wales Agency for Clinical Innovation, which works with clinicians, patients and managers to design and promote better healthcare. I am the Editor-in-Chief of Breathe, the educational journal of the European Respiratory Society.

Statement for HDR students

I am available to supervise HDR students in the areas of shared decision making, evidence communication, decision analysis, low value care (overtesting, overdiagnosis, overtreatment), and clinical epidemiological research in respiratory and sleep medicine.
