Personal profile

Research interests

My research focuses on trauma-informed justice and the justice system’s response to sexual violence, alongside broader work in regulatory reform and innovation policy.

I have published extensively in peer-reviewed and industry outlets, with my work cited by the High Court of Australia and parliamentary bodies, and have contributed to government advisory groups, inquiries and roundtables.

In 2023, I led a multidisciplinary team on a review of specialist approaches to managing sexual assault proceedings, commissioned by the Australasian Institute of Judicial Administration and the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department. The report informed the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) 2024 inquiry into justice responses to sexual violence. I currently serve on the Attorney-General’s Expert Advisory Group supporting implementation of the ALRC reforms.

My current grant-funded work investigates judicial sentiment around s 41 of the Evidence Act and its state and territory equivalents, and how judges manage cross-examination of complainants in sexual assault proceedings.

Statement for HDR students

I teach across core areas of law and supervise HDR candidates, and am committed to research-led teaching and engagement with law reform. I welcome enquiries from prospective PhD candidates interested in socio-legal, interdisciplinary and impact-focused research, particularly in trauma-informed justice, law reform and policy. Projects engaging with real-world reform challenges, including collaboration with government, industry or community stakeholders, are particularly encouraged.
