Research interests
I established the Utzon Research Center at Aalborg University in 2003 and was responsible for initiating the building of the Utzon Center in Aalborg, Denmark completed in 2008; as a home for the study of the Jørn Utzon Archives and forum for Utzon related research, education, conferences and exhibitions. I have been involved in organizing four International Utzon Symposiums (2003 and 2008 in Aalborg, 2012 in Marrakech and at the Sydney Opera House in 2014).
The current research focus is the investigation and dissemination of Jørn Utzon's work, amongst others, including notably the work Richard Leplastrier as exemplary and inspirational paradigms of a tectonic, phenomenological and poetic approach to architectural design developed through trans-cultural influences and emergent technology, combined with a broad engagement with context, place, nature and landscape. The aim of the research being to investigate, develop and promote architecture that is sustaining in all respects and therefore genuinely sustainable in the long term.
