Interview with Libby Sander, Professor of Organisational Behaviour, Bond University. Sander mentions that the workplace environment has a great impact on productivity. She says that research shows that it has a 20% impact based on the design of the workplace. She says other factors include the culture, management and leadership is like as well. She says some factors are not taken into account in the way workplaces are designed. She adds that cafes are creative and stimulating environments which increases productivity. She mentions that 70% of multinationals are planning on implementing 'hot desking' and is a big concern because people have to come in each day and find a place to sit and set up. She says people are doing 'hot desking' because it may save money up to 30% on lease costs. She adds that there are discussions that it could increase collaboration and communication as well. She says one of the reasons people enjoy their job is because of the people they work with. She adds that the quality of air in the workplace has a big effect on the brain as well. She mentions that companies like Google and Twitter provide free food and alcohol, as well as massages to keep their employees happy.
