DescriptionProfessor Mark Morgan says the training 'hurdle' for initiating hepatitis B treatment made no sense...
Mandatory training requirements for GPs who prescribe hepatitis B antivirals are unnecessary and a barrier to treatment, says the RACGP...
“Having micro-credentialing can act as a barrier rather than an enabler to GPs being involved in the care of patients,” Professor Mark Morgan, chair of the RACGP Expert Committee — Quality Care, told AusDoc.

“The whole idea of having a single-point-in-time training hurdle with a stamp to say you are accredited to prescribe a particular medication, and then that is a set and forget, does not really make sense.”

Hepatitis B antivirals were no more complex than most other medications prescribed in primary care, Professor Morgan said.

“There is no reason why a GP with access to high-quality guidance and protocols cannot manage the prescribing of antivirals.”
