Growers push to produce food with a sense of time and place

LOCAL producers are moving towards creating food that reflects Tasmania, rather than copy food from other regions, in a move to highlight the increasing importance of region to signify quality for international trade.

Subject

Although Australian agricultural production is of a high standard, once product leaves the farm gate, investment in branding and promotion falls short. Farmers would benefit from a more focused and collaborative approach to post-farm gate promotion of the unique qualities of their products, and GIs (Geographical Indications of Origin) are one option for this.
