ABC Gold Coast interview on AI detection, assessment design and digital literacy

I provided expert commentary for ABC Gold Coast on the increasing sophistication of AI detection tools and the broader implications for education, assessment and digital literacy. The interview discussed how AI detection systems analyse writing patterns, cadence and likely markers of human response, while also noting the limitations of relying solely on detection-based approaches. My comments emphasised that the more important educational challenge is not simply identifying AI use, but designing assessment that teaches learners how to use AI responsibly. This includes developing the capacity to conduct unbiased research, identify trusted sources, evaluate information quality and apply critical judgement. I argued that these skills need to be developed progressively from primary school through to university and into the workplace.
