Tactical populations are unique and bespoke both in comparison to the general or sporting populations and within individual tactical populations. For any conditioning or return to work program to be effective, the context of the tactical environment, specific profiles of injuries, load carriage requirements, and fitness impacts and influences must be considered. From the need for relative strength in load carriage but absolute strength in victim drags to the differing impacts imparted by various personal protective equipment, this lecture series will consider tactical personnel across their occupational lifespan, from initial training, through general duties service, to specialist service. This lecture series will be broken into 3 parts: 1) introduction to tactical personnel and their injuries (March 22); 2) load carriage and associated risks (March 29); and 3) the importance of fitness (April 5).
