Additional information

The initial launch of Towards a Welsh Sports Diplomacy Strategy in November 2020 provided a high-profile launch platform to raise awareness of the report and engage stakeholders in this new area of practice. However, due to time limitations we needed to limit the scope of the event and focus on delivering a Wales centric and brief overview.
There is an opportunity to plan an event which allows us to hear from international voices on this area and engage a more international audience. The first event was well attended with a broad mix of international and UK stakeholders – Chelsea FC, UNESCO, FIFA World Cup Qatar, Australia Broadcasting Commission (ABC), Sony, Universities in Oklahoma, Seoul, Egypt, Poland, Iceland, the European Commission, UK Sport, FCDO, DEFRA and more so we know there is appetite for this subject internationally.
We are looking at a focused event that looks at the research recommendations and how these chime with policy and practice in nations and through the activities of peak non-state sporting actors and organisations practicing sports diplomacy. Bringing in international voices to look in turn at key areas that might encompass a sport diplomacy strategy, giving practical examples and an opportunity to discuss.

Aims
 Share international perspectives of the report, not just Wales focused
 Create a forum for discussion of sports diplomacy as a tool of international relations
 Discuss practical examples of policy and practice
 Illustrate the breadth of sports diplomacy initiatives
 Secure international speakers from a geographical and organisational range
