The agreed aims and objectives for the 2016 Congress are as follows
Aims
To provide an inclusive, collaborative learning opportunity focused on developing physiotherapy to meet changing population and patient care needs
To create opportunities to share expertise and perspectives on advancing physiotherapy education practice and research, including in ways that foster learning before and after the event through the use of digital learning technologies
To showcase advances in physiotherapy (within practice, education and research) that demonstrate the profession’s value and impact
Objectives
1. To provide delegates with the opportunity to hear, share and discuss perspectives on advancing physiotherapy (through education, practice and research) to do the following:
ensure the profession meets changing population and patient care needs
demonstrate the profession’s commitment to user involvement and patient-centred professionalism
contribute to broader ER-WCPT activity to deliver its strategic plan
2. To consider the implications for physiotherapy education, practice and research (including innovative approaches to curriculum design, scope of practice and knowledge transfer) of:
changing demographic trends and health and social care priorities (in global, European and national contexts)
new models of service design (including the rise of healthcare technologies and delivery of care in primary care settings)
related changes in skill mix and workforce profile (including clinical leadership, advanced practice and support worker roles)
imperatives around demonstrating research-informed activity and standardised data collection
3. To optimise time before, within and after the conference through a blended learning approach (including in ways that use digital technologies to support collaboration, inclusion and a sustainable approach to the event’s delivery and legacy)
4. To create participative learning opportunities for physiotherapists in all roles (education, clinical, management, research and policy, etc.) and for physiotherapy support workers and students, recognising their collective roles in advancing the profession
