Description
The presentation on university and faculty supports, held on Monday, 11 June from 2:00 to 2:30 PM in BLD6-3-29, was led by Executive Dean Derek Carson and Associate Dean Jonathan Ping. The session focused on the various supports being implemented to enhance student learning and engagement. Key initiatives discussed included the introduction of workshops during orientation week to help students acclimate, the development of introductory videos and increased involvement in student learning support, and the organization of specialized pop-up workshops such as 'How to read construction drawings.'Additionally, the presentation highlighted the increased frequency of site visits and the use of technology to create virtual environments for practical learning. The establishment of the FSD English iLearn Community Site was also mentioned as a dedicated online community for English learning support. Another significant point was the translation and gamification of a glossary of construction terms to aid understanding. Furthermore, adjustments to class sizes within timetable guidelines were noted as a measure to improve learning conditions.
The presentation concluded with a call to action, encouraging attendees to share their ideas on additional supports they would like to see provided. Suggestions could be emailed to [email protected] with the subject line "Construction Students Support Idea."
