Description
Climate resilience in the built environment is a critical topic, especially in light of the IPCC AR6 2021 report, which indicates that Australia's temperature has increased by approximately 1.4°C between 1910 and 2020. This rise has resulted in more frequent and severe climatic and non-climatic events across the country. To address these challenges, the built environment sector must prioritise climate resilience in planning and development processes. This includes not only disaster preparedness through mitigation and adaptation strategies but also the upgrading of existing buildings and infrastructure. Additionally, there should be a strong focus on total decarbonization to achieve a net-zero built environment by 2050.
